Bridal Embroidery: Chatta Patti and Chatkian Patkian

ImageImage

I recently came across a very traditional form of embroidery known as Chattapatti which is a variation of the zardozi embroidery. Chattapatti embroidery is made up pieces of four or more colours of cloths stitched either diagonally or vertically embroidered with kamdani and sequins.  Different colours of cloth cut in small pieces basically have to be cut in similar geometric shapes and stitched and embroidered together.

Another variation of chattapatti embroidery is known as chaktian pattian, which comprises of small colourful and vibrant pieces of cloth stitched together in the shape of a diamond.

This form of embroidery flourished in Lucknow, India during the reign of the Nawabs of Awadh.

In Bridal dresses, these two forms of embroidery may be used while designing sleeves and are also stitched on the bottom part of lehengas, ghararas and dhaka pajamas. This is definitely a beautiful and traditional form of embroidery best suited for classic brides. However, given the hard work, dedication and skill that these form of embroidery require, it can cost A WHOLE LOT to get these made, except maybe if you know some one in India who may get it made at a comparatively cheaper price for you.

Here are some examples of the Chattapatti and Chatktian Patkian embroidery:

In Pakistan, one of the best known specialists of Chattapatti embroidery is Bunto Kazmi. However, other designers such as Umar Sayeed and Doctor Haroon are also known to make these. There are no guesses how pricey the bridal dress is going to be though. :)

Did you wear Chatta Patti or Chatkian Patkian embroidery on your BIG DAY? Let me know. :)

Thoughtful Gestures

Marriage i tell you is tough. There are times when you want to pull your hair. Cut the story short. Pack your bags. Run. There are times you are this close to unveiling the feminist, smart arsed, independent, sharp tongued woman you know you are capable of being. But guess what, you don’t? :) Because you are smarter than that. Because you choose to be wise. Because you love fiercely. because you are loyal. because you know in your gut that this shall pass. Because your mama told you that if you can control the little muscle between your teeth, life will be easier and happier. ;)

And because, one fine day when it is least expected, He will hand you a nice paper bag just before you set out for the day. Because when you open the bag as soon as you sit in the car ( ofcourse i couldn’t wait!) there were two freshly made sandwiches oozing with the goodness of cheese and egg. And the best part a little bun neatly sliced in three parts and then put together again with fig jam binding each.

YES!!!!

Wedding Photography: Dossani Plus

Image

DossaniPlus is a relatively new name in Wedding Photography in Karachi. But despite being new, it is doing relatively well and is slowly establishing itself as one of the ” go to” photographers to cover your wedding.  Although, the Dossani Family has been in the photography business since decades, but Kashif Dossani, the second generation photographer in the family has breathed a new lease of life into the business.

I approached Kashif Dossani a few months ago and he kindly agreed to an online interview to be published in this blog space. I’ll let the interview do the rest of the talking. :)

1 – Tell us about Dossani Plus.

DossaniPlus is a boutique Canadian based studio led by myself. We brought a different style of photography in the Vancouver Wedding, glamour and corporate industry in Canada. 2- Who are the photographers?

I am the key photographer. I graduated from a prestigious Canadian Photography school in Vancouver. Being among the top rank in my class for people photography, I have also been acknowledged as ‘one who creates from nothing’.

I feel that I am good at observing which enables me to capture treasured moments and display them into authenticated candid shots. My ability, experience and understanding gained opportunities to exhibit my work of art in select exhibitions across Canada.

My associate photographers assist me and also lead events.
